Relief for Victims of Hurricane Helene
There are many ways we can be in support of those affected by the unprecedented storms brought by Hurricane Helene. First, offer your prayers of hope, relief, compassion, and mercy for the residents, volunteers, and decision-makers in these areas. Secondly, you can find local assistance organizations if you’d like to donate to a specific area or cause. We invite you to consider one of three options for financial assistance:
Donate through the California-Pacific Annual Conference here.
Donate through the United Methodist Committee on Relief here.
Donate to World Central Kitchen, who is offering food assistance to the Asheville area, here.
As we continue to grow and serve our community, it is essential that we keep accurate and up-to-date records for all of our members. Please provide Debbie Bowlus with any changes to your address, email address, or any other relevant details. This helps ensure you receive timely updates about church events and services. It also helps us provide better support and outreach to our congregation.
NEW MEMBER CLASS! Have you ever wondered about what United Methodists think about major cultural and political issues? What do we really believe about Resurrection? Sin? Hell? Join us on Tuesdays starting September 17 - October 29 at 7:00 pm on Zoom for a deeper look at our Methodist faith and heritage. Books will be available on Sunday, Sept. 15. Contact Rev. Mandy for more information!
*NO CLASS on Tuesday, October 15
*NO DISCIPLE IV CLASS on Wednesday, October 16

Hebrew Bible Reading: Job 23:1-9, 16-17, NRSV
Then Job answered:
‘Today also my complaint is bitter;
his hand is heavy despite my groaning.
O that I knew where I might find him,
that I might come even to his dwelling!
I would lay my case before him,
and fill my mouth with arguments.
I would learn what he would answer me,
and understand what he would say to me.
Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?
No; but he would give heed to me.
There an upright person could reason with him,
and I should be acquitted for ever by my judge.
‘If I go forward, he is not there;
or backward, I cannot perceive him;
on the left he hides, and I cannot behold him;
I turn to the right, but I cannot see him.
God has made my heart faint;
the Almighty has terrified me;
If only I could vanish in darkness,
and thick darkness would cover my face!
Gosapel Reading: Mark 10:17-31, NRSV
As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: “You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honour your father and mother.” ’ He said to him, ‘Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth.’ Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, ‘You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’ When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, ‘How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!’ And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, ‘Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’ They were greatly astounded and said to one another,‘Then who can be saved?’ Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.’
Peter began to say to him, ‘Look, we have left everything and followed you.’ Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age—houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.’
One: This is the word of God for us, the People of God.
All: Thanks be to God!

HOLY COMMUNION
Invitation to the Table: As we understand the Body of Christ to be inclusive, we understand God’s table of grace and fellowship can extend into our homes. As you’re able, bring your own elements to this time. Bread, Juice, Coffee, Muffins… the Body of Christ is comprised of wonder and mystery. Today, we celebrate that God can reach us where we are, even if we are not together.
The Great Mystery of our Faith
All: Christ has died
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
And now, with the confidence of the children of God, let us pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
MUSIC DURING OFFERING AND COMMUNION:
